Dublin fathers thank surrogacy for making parenthood possible

Make no mistake about it; the Kreais family is a “normal” family.

Make no mistake about it; the Kreais family is a “normal” family.

One of the upstairs bedrooms in their Dublin home is a play room with toys thrown about on the floor, while 4-year-old twins Hudson and Irene sit at a nearby table drawing pictures with Crayons.

Fathers Josh and Aaron Kreais know, as all parents do, that children can be a handful.

But, it’s a handful they always wanted.

“I can’t imagine life without them,” Aaron said.

The children are Josh and Aaron’s biological children through the help of Family Source Consultants.

“You can kind of see like bits and pieces of me and bits and pieces of Aaron,” Josh said. “It’s just neat to see how that came about.”

Also neat, they say, is how far acceptance has come for the gay community and how far it has yet to go.

The couple has been married for eight years. They say they’ve dealt with naysayers. Josh says he was kicked out of the Army years ago because of “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” They wonder the future for their children while they grow up in today’s world, while dealing with hatred.

Aaron says the attack on an Orlando gay night club last weekend hit him hard.

“With seeing on the news all the vigils and all the people that it had affected…I really struggled with it,” he said.

But from that struggle came a renewed commitment to be a proud, strong family. This weekend the Kreais family participated in the 2016 Pride parade in Columbus.

“I think that’s part of the importance of us living our lives open, normal, proud family,” Aaron said. “So that their tomorrow is better.”

Standing up for each other; what they say normal families do.
