We had a wonderful experience with FSC and with our surrogate. Everyone wants the same thing – a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. Going into this journey, we didn’t know how close we would become with the surrogate and her family. We now consider them an extension of our family. Following the birth, we know we will continue this relationship for years to come! – FSC Parents R&J

R&J learned about Family Source Consultants at the Men Having Babies conference in Chicago in 2016. They became parents to a beautiful baby boy in July 2021 with the help of TeamFSC Surrogate Kat.

Did you have any fears or worries about working with a surrogate?

We didn’t have any fears or worries about working with a surrogate but simply wanted one that communicated well with us, provide updates regularly, maintained a generally healthy lifestyle throughout the pregnancy, and was responsible for ensuring she arrived at appointments (i.e., physician/midwife, imaging, lab work, etc.).

How did you know that your surrogate was the one for you?

We knew our surrogate was the one for us because of how well we “clicked”. It was easy to talk to her and her husband. Our first conversation just flowed as if we’d been friends for years.

What was your relationship like with your surrogate? Was it different than you expected? What is it like now?

Our relationship with our surrogate was and is excellent. Before and during the pregnancy, we made it a point to have weekly video calls since we lived far away from one another. We also formed a WhatsApp group chat that included the surrogate, her husband, and the two IPs. After the birth of our baby, we still text almost daily. Our relationship with her and her husband will continue for years to come. We view them as an extension of our family.

Do you have any advice for intended parents who are just starting out?

If you have questions, just ask! Ask the surrogacy agency, ask the case manager, ask the physicians involved, and ask other IPs that have been through this process. We had a lot of questions before and throughout the journey and we learned a lot simply by asking. Also, have trust and faith in your surrogate. There is no need to be overbearing or domineering. The surrogate has been through pregnancy before and does not take this task lightly. She and the IPs want the same outcome – a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
