In celebration of Pride Month, we spoke with Paul and Emilio about their experiences navigating the world of surrogacy in the United States as a same-sex couple from Spain. Our host Susan knows them quite well, as she was personally their surrogate! Paul and Emilio met at a Pride celebration over 9 years ago and the idea of having a family was one that was discussed early on. The surrogacy process is not legal in Spain, so when the time came that they were ready to begin their journey, they reached out to Family Source and instantly knew they were in the right hands. “The universe was shining on us!” Paul says.

Dr. D is an internationally recognized fertility specialist at San Diego Fertility Center with extensive experience in providing third-party reproductive services. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in egg donation and surrogacy and is one of the main providers of third-party care in the United States.

In this episode, we talk to our friend Dr. Melvin Thornton II. Dr. Melvin H. Thornton II is double board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine. He has been helping families in the Tri-state for over 18 years. Dr. Thornton completed his OB/GYN internship and residency as well as his Reproductive Medicine fellowship at the University of Southern California. He received additional training in advanced reproductive surgery at The Cleveland Clinic before joining the faculty at Columbia University. In this episode, we thought we would explore some of the medical aspects associated with the new Surrogacy statute in NY state.
In this episode, we talk to our friend Phoebe Sadler about the recent change in Surrogacy laws in the state of New York. Phoebe is an associate at the International Fertility Law Group. She has a background in family law and has been practicing exclusively in the area of assisted reproduction technology (ART) law since 2018. Phoebe will answer Susan’s questions surrounding the legalities of the Child Parent Security Act (CPSA) that went into effect on February 15th, 2021 in New York State.
