Meet Jessica!
“This was an amazing agency to work with. The support I received from start to finish was amazing. They walk you through everything and they are there every step of the way. Even months after delivery I’m still getting emails and texts to see how I’m doing. Everyone who works for FSC has such a big heart and understands what you’re going through. I think if you contacted them in the middle of the night they would answer, that is how dedicated they are to each surrogate. The Facebook group was so helpful throughout my journey. Posting questions and concerns helped ease my worries because some surrogates have gone through the same issues I had throughout my pregnancy.“
Jessica is an amazing surrogate that delivered an adorable baby boy for a loving family.
Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
I kept seeing ads pop up on my Facebook about “Be a Surrogate”. I kept thinking to myself, I think I could do that. I didn’t mind being pregnant and I really missed the baby kicks. I was like how cool would it be to help a family out and the compensation was a plus.
Q. Who was the most significant support person throughout your journey?
My husband 100%. He supported me from day 1. He was by my side every step of the way. He always stayed positive even when I was nervous or scared with test results. He would always tell me we are going to pray and everything will be ok. He really calmed my nerves and was so supportive. I could not have done this journey without him.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
Their story. The difficulty they kept facing with trying to get pregnant really resonated with me, because my husband and I were there too. Before we got pregnant with our first we experienced several miscarriages. It was heartbreaking and I know exactly how they felt. Struggling with infertility was something we had faced as well along with all the emotions that came with it. I was so happy I was able to complete their family.
Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?
The transfer day was a big day! My family and I had traveled to Minnesota for the transfer. We made it a mini vacation. I was so eager for my first beta test. When I went back to see if my numbers increased and they had, I was so excited. After that, I was looking forward to the first ultrasound. I was so nervous, but so excited. It was crazy to see the baby on the screen.
Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
Do it!! It was such an amazing experience and to see the joy on their faces in that delivery room was absolutely priceless.
Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?
I love the agency. They were very supportive and helpful every step of the way. Knowing that they are always going to have my best interest at heart has me really considering doing a second journey through Family Source Consultants.
Q: What would you like other people to know about surrogacy?
Not many people can or will do it. If you think about it, just do it. You will make someone’s dreams come true.
Q: What was the funniest/strangest/most common questions you were asked as a surrogate? How did you answer?
Aren’t you worried you’re going to get attached? What if the parents don’t want the baby? I would tell them I know this baby is not ours so there is no connection there. When they asked what if the parents don’t want the baby I would let them know about the contracts we all signed and I really truly believe they would not go through all of this just to say they don’t want the baby in the end.
Q: How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?
For me, just being able to say I was a surrogate makes me very proud. I helped complete strangers make their dreams of completing a family come true and that is something no one can ever take away from me.
Q: Was this pregnancy different than your other pregnancies? If so, how?
Yes. I was diagnosed with a circumvallate placenta, which resolved on its own and also polyhydramnios, or excess amniotic fluid. I didn’t have that with any of my other pregnancies. It was really hard towards the end because I had so much fluid I was struggling to move and sleep. He was also sideways in my stomach. My last born was too, which resulted in an emergency c-section. In the end, me and surro baby are just fine!
Q: How did you prepare yourself for separating from the baby after birth?
I kept telling myself that this baby is not ours. My husband and I did not conceive this baby and there is no relation to us.
Q: What would you like someone who is considering working with a surrogate to know?
Even though my journey was filled with lots of emotions. Fear, worry, anxiety I would absolutely do this again in a heartbeat. This was such an amazing experience. FSC made my journey feel like a cake walk. They were there every step of the way. I know my manager was getting tired of my texts lol. Tiffany – my Case Coordinator – was always there to calm my mind. Her and Denise – our Surrogate Support Manager – were absolutely amazing. I thank God for allowing me to complete a family. One of the things my husband said after I delivered, and I will never forget this is “You can’t put a price on what you just did.”
