Meet Kayla!

“I loved working with FSC! My case manager was the best. She checked on me all the time and was making sure that I was doing ok every step of the way.

Kayla is an amazing surrogate that delivered an adorable baby boy for a loving family.

Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?

Ever since I was 18 I wanted to give a family to someone in need, even when I didn’t know if I wanted a family of my own. I had my first daughter and was still figuring out life. When I met my husband we had so many conversations about surrogacy, but every time we talked I would get pregnant. lol last January I just took the leap and filled out an application and that’s when this crazy journey of mine started!

Q. Who was the most significant support person throughout your journey?

My husband was there throughout the whole journey and was the most amazing person to have when I gave birth. I could have not asked for a better person to be by my side.

Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?

When I was reading through the profile at the end there was a letter to there future surrogate and I was in Instant tears. I knew that they were my match.

Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?

I would have to say the best part of my journey would be the relationship that I have with the baby’s parents. I wouldn’t change the bond that we have. I love them and I love the baby that I gave birth too.

Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?

The best advice I would have is to take it all in and document everything. You are going to want to look back on this amazing thing that you did and remember the way it made you feel.

Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?

I loved working with FSC! My case manager was the best. She checked on me all the time and was making sure that I was doing ok every step of the way.

Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?

I got asked all the time, are you going to be ok with giving up the baby. Well I’m not giving anything up, I am giving two loving people a dream that they couldn’t do on their own. I’m not saying that it wasn’t hard but it was all worth it when you see the joy on there face when the parents laid there eyes on that beautiful child.

Q. What would you like other people to know about surrogacy?

Surrogacy is such a selfless thing , but it comes with its challenges.

Q. How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?

My life will be forever changed. I have made one family whole and gained two of my best friends. And I get to see that beautiful baby boy grow up and know that he is loved by more than his parents!!

Q. Was this pregnancy different than your other pregnancies? If so, how?

This pregnancy was way different than my other three. I was so sick in the beginning and he was a very large baby from the start. I also had trouble with my blood pressure and that never happened with my other three.

Q. How did you prepare yourself for separating from the baby after birth?

You can only mentally prepare so much. You never know how you will feel until it happens. Leaving the hospital was very hard for me. You feel like you just have had some type of loss and that’s ok to feel. I was told by a very special person that joy and grief can exist in the same moment. This is so true when it comes to surrogacy.

Q. What would you like someone who is considering working with a surrogate to know?

It’s ok to have a special relationship with your surrogate. This will make your experience a bit more special and help you have a bond with them long after the baby is here.
