The Joys of Surrogacy from an Uncle’s Perspective!

My Family has always been open minded to new ideas, opinions and lifestyles. I wouldn’t consider my family the typical Hispanic family, but we are very close and have traditions within our family. We tend to stay together and talk about any issue concerning life and have breakfast together every Sunday. 

Being the youngest of three – I looked forward to the time when my two older sisters thought about growing their families. Yet – One of my sisters struggled to have children. She and her husband felt defeated, angry. There was a point where hope started to not be an option. 

Although my sister and my brother-in-law had just about given up on starting a family, our parents never did. They were determined. My parents were not going to give up. They searched adoption agencies because surrogacy was something we did not even know about. But through their research, my mom and dad discovered surrogacy and then reached out to Family Source Consultants. 

I only imagined the nightmare my sister was for the agency because she is so picky and such a perfectionist. She had so many questions, however, Family Source Consultants was there to guide us and help us. The team at FSC soon became part of our own family. 

I was fascinated to learn how the surrogacy process worked. I was more than excited to think how science has advanced. The overall process me excited as well as very curious about the process. Also, watching my sister become happier and happier as her relationship grew with Amy, her surrogate. 

In 2011, Amy gave birth to healthy boy/girl twins. I absolutely love being an uncle, my niece and nephew are the curtest! My niece, the only little girl in our family, is my little princess and is so sweet and caring, oftentimes even becoming jealous of my wife, Monika, it is so cute. She never stops smiling and her laugh is so contagious as well as my nephew’s laugh. Playing games with my niece and nephew is what I enjoy best as it takes me back to my childhood; They give me a good excuse to just be silly and have fun. I am so glad to to live each moment and making memories with my family. The twins are exploring the world with so much joy and I am blessed to see them learn and grow. 

I understand the idea of surrogacy can sound unknown and scary – but it has been the absolute best thing to ever happen to my family.
