A successful surrogacy journey depends on a good match and a strong relationship with your intended parents, that’s why it’s worth investing the time and effort to create a profile that is both honest and appealing. By following these suggestions, you’ll be able to create a profile that will help us make the perfect surrogate-intended parent connection for you!

Tip #1: Think about each question carefully before you answer it.

You don’t have to complete your profile within a certain time limit, and nobody’s looking over your shoulder to see how long it takes you. Take as much time as you need to give prospective intended parents a thorough understanding of who you are.  You can always save your online application and come back later to complete the application process.

Tip #2: Be honest.

Trust is the foundation of a healthy relationship between you and your Intended Parent. Start off on the right foot by being authentic in your surrogate profile and fearlessly showing the real you. You may think you know what Intended Parents want in a surrogate and try to be that person, but that would be a mistake. Surrogacy doesn’t fall into the one-size-fits-all category and pretending to be someone you’re not can cause resentment down the road.

Tip #3: Let your personality shine through.

Intended Parents want to know who you are and what makes you tick. Tell them about your family, how wonderful your children are, what makes you laugh and cry, your favorite movie, etc. Explain why you have decided to become a surrogate. Don’t be afraid to share.

Tip #4: Be descriptive and informative about your interests and goals.

One word answers won’t give prospective parents any insights into who you really are. This could cause you to miss out on the perfect match. If you list ‘traveling’ as one of your goals, make sure to elaborate on where you want to go and why you would like to go there. If you choose to share your love of love art on your surrogacy profile, describe your favorite painting as well. Being descriptive can help you stand out among other candidates.

Tip #5: Choose a profile photo that shows you at your most relaxed and natural.

A professional studio portrait may show you at your most beautiful, but prospective IP’s are more likely to feel a connection to you if your pic shows how you look on a day to day basis. (That doesn’t mean you should include a picture of you in your pajamas though!) Have a trusted friend choose a picture of you if you can’t decide.

Tip #6: Ask a friend to review your profile.

Constructive criticism is invaluable. We don’t always know ourselves as well as we like to think we do and a trustworthy friend will keep us honest. When you have your friend help you select a picture, ask them to review your surrogacy profile as well. Make it clear that you would like honest feedback and make changes accordingly.

Tip #7: Do a spell check and a final edit.

It’s worth making the extra effort to perfect your profile; it shows your commitment to the process.
