What is egg donation? Egg donation is when a woman gives her eggs to another woman suffering from fertility issues. Conceptionally, the eggs from the donor are better suited to a pregnancy, presenting those with fertility issues a chance to become a parent. The child will be biologically related to the egg donor, and ultimately this is a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

  • Egg donation is a vital part of surrogacy and helps bring intended parents once step closer to parenthood.
  • Egg donors are compensated and will receive at least $10,000 per egg donation cycle.
  • To become an egg donor, you must meet health, age, and lifestyle requirements.

Eligibility Requirements

Not just anyone can become a donor. There are some requirements an individual must meet in order to qualify. For instance, egg donors must:

  • Be a United States resident
  • Be 20 to 30 years old
  • Be in good health
  • Be height-weight proportionate with BMI of 28 or less
  • Have a high school education minimum
  • Be willing to take medications via injection
  • Not smoke or take illegal drugs
  • Have had a Pap smear within the last year
  • Not have any psychiatric illness
  • Know at least one half of your genetic make-up
  • Have reliable transportation (You will have several appointments as you get closer to the retrieval date.)
  • Not have had a Depo-Provera shot for at least 8 months
  • Not be on Norplant

These safeguards are to ensure that the process is appropriate for all parties involved, maximizing safety and the quality of a match. Despite the list of preliminary requirements, being an egg donor is a case where the ends justify the means to get there.
