Hello! My name is Katie. I am married to my best friend of sixteen years. We have two beautiful daughters ages 7 and 10. I am a second grade teacher in a small town (so small we don’t even have one stop light).
When I was active duty in the United States Navy, I met and became friends with a lady at work. When she told me she couldn’t have children of her own it broke my heart and I knew immediately that I wanted to help her. Shortly after we discussed the possibility of me carrying a child for her, the Navy passed an instruction that did not allow active duty members to become surrogates. I was devastated. Years went by and once in a while the idea of becoming a surrogate would come to mind but I knew it was never the right time. Six years ago I married my prince charming. I decided to tell him about my dreams of becoming a surrogate. He was very supportive and thought it was a great idea. He adopted our girls shortly after we were married and I was adopted when I was a teenager after bouncing around foster care for years. So we definitely believe that a family is created from love and that can happen in many different ways.
It seems like yesterday that I submitted my application and talked to Zara on the phone. Very soon she contacted us with a match. After reading their profile, I immediately felt a connection with them and knew they were the perfect match for our family and thankfully they also felt the same way! This has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life. It has taught me so much about myself. I was worried about how my daughters would handle it but they have enjoyed every moment of it. It makes my heart flutter when they tell me they are so proud of me. For us, the third transfer was a charm and I am due to have this little one first week in December. I cannot imagine the amount of joy I am going to feel seeing those parents with their new daughter. I am so thankful for this journey and the wonderful support I have received from the FSC family.
