“I loved my experience, and I can’t wait to do it again!”
Desirae is an incredible gestational surrogate who delivered a baby boy for a family in July 2023.
Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?
I always wanted to help other families out, and I had a bigger heart. I asked God if this was for me to allow me to do it again, and he did, and I fell in love with the entire thing. Seeing the smiles on the parents faces when they walked in and met their son made everything worth it.
Q. Who was the most significant support person throughout your journey?
My case manager, the other surrogates, my children, the FSC surrogate support manager, my spouse, and even the [intended] parents.
Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?
When we were viewing everything and I read how much she wanted to be a mom and he wanted to be a dad, and her background and how she and her husband have always wanted this, I knew it was them. We all also believed in God, which led me to confirm that this was the family!
Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?
Watching it grow from a little embryo to developing into a human being. Feeling his kicks and even the birth! The birth made it the best, because that’s when it all came in and was just amazing! I am still in awe from seeing them hold their son, and I can’t wait to do it again.
Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?
Have a strong support system and know for sure that this is something you want to do. Do not rush; take the time to do your research.
Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?
I loved my experience and can’t wait to do it again. I am in love with this entire thing, and as long as God allows me to do it, I will keep using my body as a vessel to bless those who choose and allow me to do so. I love being a surrogate, and it is truly the greatest thing, besides being a mom, that I have done.
Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?
They think people are in it for the money only.
Q. What would you like other people to know about surrogacy?
It is an amazing thing, and we always need more surrogates to help more families. It is not for everyone, but if you have the special heart to do it, you will not regret it.
Q. How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?
It changed my heart, and I am truly just grateful that I was able to do this. I understand [more] about how much a family can want a baby, but it’s changed my life because I honestly just want to keep going and help families be created.
