“My advice for someone thinking of becoming a surrogate would be to go for it. It’s the greatest feeling in the world.”

Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?

I saw a documentary on surrogacy shortly after my youngest daughter was born and thought it was a wonderful gift to give a family. At first, I didn’t have family support, so I did not follow through. After starting a new job 2 years ago I realized that several of my coworkers struggled to get pregnant and had to get fertility treatment to have their kids, and some were still unable even after treatments. That made me want to pursue surrogacy again. This time I had a great support system and started the process.

Q. Who was/is your largest support person/s throughout your journey?

My husband is without a doubt my biggest support. He stood by me throughout the whole process and pushed me through all my nervousness to proceed with surrogacy. The FSC group is also a huge support, not just to me, but to all of the surrogates.

Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?

My intended parents were so sweet and seemed so genuine. They were full of love for each other and their 2 year old son. I wanted more than anything to help them complete their family.

Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?

Meeting my intended parents for the first time was the greatest highlight of my journey. But also seeing the pure joy and emotion in their eyes when their baby was put in their arms. It warmed my heart to see them have their family completed.

Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?

My advice for someone thinking of becoming a surrogate would be to go for it. It’s the greatest feeling in the world. But also, be prepared to need to be patient. You’ll have a lot of waiting and stress, but in the end it will all be worth it.

Q. How was this pregnancy different from your other pregnancies?

This pregnancy was different because it seemed like it went so fast. Every week went by in a flash. It was also amazing having a baby growing inside me, but knowing I did not have to prepare to bring a baby home.

Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?

It amazes me that everyone just assumes that the baby is somehow related biologically to the surrogate, and that she won’t be able to emotionally let the baby go to the parents when he/she/they are born. A lot of people are very uneducated about surrogate situations.
