Alysia is a first-time gestational surrogate who delivered a baby girl for a family in October 2023.

Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?

I read and researcher surrogacy back in high school. I thought the stories were inspirational. Once I had my own children, and loving pregnancy, I realized just how fulfilling and complete my husband and I felt having our own family. I Thought more about surrogacy and helping create families. I knew then that if I could help another family have a baby, there could be nothing more rewarding.

Q. Who was the most significant support person throughout your journey?

My husband. He was amazing my entire journey. He was patient and compassionate no matter what stage.

Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?

He was very sweet and genuine. He had been waiting several years to find and match with a surrogate. I loved the look he got in his eyes when we talked about how much he wanted a child. It was also important to both of us to continue to have communication in the future.

Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?

Hearing the first heartbeat and getting that confirmation was the first big highlight for me. I remember crying looking at the screen.

The next was when the intended parent came to visit. He asked to touch my belly and smiled so bright.

Another highlight was all the love, check ins, and updates I got/gave through Didi.

The best highlight was after giving birth. When she came out, there was clear love radiating off the intended parent. His eyes showed how much he loved her.

Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?

It may start off slow with the medications, and appointments, but once the pregnancy starts, it goes by so fast. Having someone supportive is also very important. The journey is very rewarding, but also emotional.

Q. How do you feel about your experience working with Family Source Consultants?

Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?

The biggest misconception people have about surrogacy is that we do it for any other reason than to help in creating a family. There are many personal benefits to being a surrogate, but we do it because we want to make a difference in people’s lives.

Q. How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?

It has given me a very important new friends. It has also given me a great sense of pride and happiness.
