Meet Heather!

Family Source Consultants has been amazing every step of the way. From answering all of my questions in the beginning, middle, and end. Even after delivery being there to answer everything for me. They don’t care what time it is they are always there to help when needed.

Q: What led you to become a Surrogate?

I’ve always dreamt of becoming a surrogate. Being able to help someone have a child who can’t on their own has always been a dream for me. One day I decided that my family was complete, so the next step was to help someone else start their family.

Q. Who was your greatest support person throughout your journey?

My family has always been my biggest support. I’ve had so many family members be there for me every step of the way, whether I needed a sitter for my children so I could go to transfer or deliver, or if it was me very pregnant needing help cleaning my house. My family has always been there helping and supporting me 110%.

Q. What made you decide to choose your Intended Parents?

I looked at a few people and everyone seemed good but not quite perfect. The intended parents I chose just stood out to me. They were perfect in every way. The first time we talked we just connected. Even when there were some challenges in the beginning, we all figured out a way to make everything work together.

Q. What are some of the highlights of your journey?

I loved being pregnant and getting to share everything with my intended parents. The intended mom was able to come and visit me and be here for the anatomy scan and that was just a very special experience. Her being able to see her baby wiggle on the screen and to see the way she looked at her little baby.

Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?

I would highly recommend partnering with FSC as they are experts and able to guide the surrogate through the entire process. I would also advise that any surrogate not be in a rush. There are several steps to the journey and each one takes different amounts of time to complete.

Q. Do you have advice for women who are interested in becoming a gestational surrogate?

Take the chance to help someone have a family. It’ll be the best choice you make. It’s such a special experience. It can be a long process at first, but once it starts it is very amazing.

Q. What did you find was the biggest misconception people had about surrogacy?

Many people think you are giving your baby away. Or ask how I won’t get attached. It’s easy though because you go into it knowing it’s not your baby. They are not biologically yours at all. It’s an embryo made and transferred to you. It is completely their child and not yours at all.

Q. How has becoming a surrogate impacted your life?

It’s made me realize just how special it is to be able to help someone create a family. Knowing how long people try to have kids on their own. Knowing I can help them and make a difference in their life.

Q. How was this pregnancy different from your other pregnancies?

This pregnancy was pretty close to the same. Slightly different as I was pretty nauseous in the beginning. And towards the end, I was in a bit more pain. She also had a pretty big head so I experienced my first c-section.

Q. What did you do to prepare yourself for separating from the baby after it was born?

I just knew from the beginning that she is not mine. I am just the oven to bake the baby until she was ready to be born. It was extremely easy and so rewarding to see her in her parents’ arms.

Q. What would you tell someone who was considering working with a surrogate?

I would tell them that it may be hard not to be able to carry their own child, but working with a surrogate will be such a good experience. You can get a really good friend out of it. And they are there to help them start a family of their own.
